Recap by phillip woo

Plain Blue Banner got the gap between runners 150m out following a rails run in midfield to get up 80m out for the win. He rarely runs a bad race in this grade and did put the writing on the wall last time out. Jimson The Famous stayed on well following a handy run to fill the runner-up spot for a second straight run. He's ready to win on either surface. Lucky Place came on strongly after a deep run near the back for a placing with a rise in trip. He has been hitting the line with purpose in three outings this term and doesn't appear to be far off a winning run. Well-punted late, Natural Friendship made a steady bid from behind midfield. He might be looking for the mile. Fantasticlife wasn't properly tested over the final 150m when trying to rally from behind midfield. He should have gone close to placing. Favourite Danewin Express came up flat inside the final 150m after looming a chance 250m out following a deep run with cover beyond midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (106)-PARROT HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1400Metres

PLENTY OF SPEED and SNOWHOOVES began awkwardly and lost ground.

From the outside barriers, THUNDER DASH and BE THERE AHEAD were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

Approaching the 900 Metres, SNOWHOOVES was left racing wide and without cover.

Approaching the 300 Metres, FANTASTICLIFE was steadied when disappointed for running between JIMSON THE FAMOUS and PLAIN BLUE BANNER which shifted out.

FANTASTICLIFE was then held up for clear running behind JIMSON THE FAMOUS which shifted out after the 300 Metres, resulting in a run becoming momentarily available between PLAIN BLUE BANNER and JIMSON THE FAMOUS.

FANTASTICLIFE was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of JIMSON THE FAMOUS approaching the 200 Metres when that horse shifted back in.

Near the 100 Metres, FANTASTICLIFE had difficulty obtaining clear running and consequently was not able to be properly tested.

For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, PLAIN BLUE BANNER raced in restricted room between LE PEGASE and FRIENDS FOREVER when obtaining tight running between those horses.

Then near the 200 Metres, FRIENDS FOREVER shifted in slightly, resulting in PLAIN BLUE BANNER becoming unbalanced when crowded for room.

In this incident, FRIENDS FOREVER also became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by PLAIN BLUE BANNER.

As FRIENDS FOREVER was shifted out to relieve the tightening to PLAIN BLUE BANNER, it bumped the hindquarters of JIMSON THE FAMOUS which became unbalanced.

Passing the 100 Metres, FRIENDS FOREVER was then awkwardly placed outside the heels of PLAIN BLUE BANNER.

In the Straight, EVERYDAY LETTUCE gave ground abruptly and finished tailed out.

A veterinary inspection of EVERYDAY LETTUCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of EVERYDAY LETTUCE was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, EVERYDAY LETTUCE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, K C Leung (BE THERE AHEAD) stated that his mount shortened stride noticeably after the 700 Metres and as the horse did not feel comfortable in its action, he eased it down after the 600 Metres.

A veterinary inspection of BE THERE AHEAD immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

The performance of BE THERE AHEAD was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, BE THERE AHEAD will be required to perform competitively in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DANEWIN EXPRESS, J Moreira stated that his mount was fractious in the barriers and kicked out on a number of occasions.

He said because of this DANEWIN EXPRESS jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin.

He said after having to ride his mount along for some distance in the early stages to obtain a position close to the rail, DANEWIN EXPRESS did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and after being placed under pressure in the early part of the Straight, it only gave him a limited response before weakening over the final 200 Metres.

A veterinary inspection of DANEWIN EXPRESS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, DANEWIN EXPRESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
