Recap by phillip woo

Well-found late, Deja Vu came on when pulling out three deep at the 200m following a handy run along the fence to run down the front-running Startling Power 30m out for a second dirt success despite a return to Class Three. Startling Power showed superior gate speed, cornered near three lengths on top and kept on well for second. Happy Meteor pressed forward from a wide gate to sit second at the 1,000m, straightened three deep with every chance and only held his ground under the pump. Grand Plus ran on steadily five deep following a one-off run in midfield to just miss a placing. Elite Spirit came up flat over the final 100m after pulling out four deep with a fleeting chance at the 200m following a prominent run with cover. Great Sky made some ground without menacing from behind midfield. Lord Sinclair was hampered coming to the final bend travelling third from the rear and only stayed on passed beaten rivals. Late-fancied favourite Sky Hero settled one off in third but found nothing in the drive to the wire. Glorious Avenue never menaced from the back when steadying and losing ground 600m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (692)-THE HONG KONG UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION CHALLENGE CUP(HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1200Metres

Whilst in the saddling stalls, DEJA VU had its right front plate refitted.

DEJA VU was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

On arrival at the barriers, J Moreira (GRAND PLUS) expressed concern regarding the horse's action.

GRAND PLUS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said, after the necessary consultation, that the horse was suitable to race.

After the completion of the veterinary examination, the tongue tie applied to GRAND PLUS was refitted.

YOUNG RANGER was crowded for room on jumping between HAPPY METEOR and GREAT SKY which shifted out.

In this incident, YOUNG RANGER bumped the hindquarters of HAPPY METEOR which became unbalanced.

In the early stages, GLOBAL DOMINATION was steadied and shifted across behind runners from the outside barrier.

Passing the 1000 Metres, GLORIOUS AVENUE shifted out and bumped LORD SINCLAIR which became unbalanced and then shifted in.

Making the turn near the 700 Metres, GLORIOUS AVENUE momentarily raced tight inside GREAT SKY which got its head on the side and lay in.

GLORIOUS AVENUE then shifted out abruptly across the heels of GREAT SKY, resulting in GLORIOUS AVENUE being severely checked and LORD SINCLAIR also being checked as a result of being taken out across the heels of GLOBAL DOMINATION by GLORIOUS AVENUE.

A veterinary inspection of GLORIOUS AVENUE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, GLORIOUS AVENUE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Making the turn after the 700 Metres, GRAND PLUS improved to be racing tight inside the heels of ELITE SPIRIT which shifted out momentarily away from the heels of SKY HERO before shifting back in to resume the position behind that horse.

DEJA VU lost its right front plate in the middle stages.

Passing the 200 Metres, J Moreira dropped his left rein.

When questioned, M Chadwick stated that after the 1200 Metres GLOBAL DOMINATION was out-paced particularly after the 800 Metres due to the fast tempo of the race.

He said he urged GLOBAL DOMINATION forward after the 600 Metres when LORD SINCLAIR was not able to maintain its position to the inside of GLOBAL DOMINATION and he was able to shift his mount closer to the rail.

He said he attempted to follow OTOUTO at this time, however, the tempo of the race was too strong and GLOBAL DOMINATION was off the bridle.

He added in the Straight GLOBAL DOMINATION finished off the race strongly.

A veterinary inspection of LORD SINCLAIR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of SKY HERO immediately following the race revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils and to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.

SKY HERO, DEJA VU and STARTLING POWER were sent for sampling.
