Racing Incident Report
Race Six: (625)-THE WONG CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1200Metres
As the start was effected, RESPECT lifted its front feet off the ground and as a consequence lost ground.ROYAL SPIRIT was slow to begin.
From a wide barrier, I'M THE WON FOR U was steadied shortly after the start and shifted across behind runners.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, SLEDGE HAMMER got its head up and proved difficult to settle when being restrained away from the heels of HELEN'S CHOICE which shifted in.
At the 800 Metres, SNOW SLIDER was left racing wide and without cover.
At the entrance to the Straight, LANSBURY improved into tight running to the inside of HORSE SUPREMO.
As a consequence, both LANSBURY and HORSE SUPREMO then raced in restricted room inside FORMULA GALORE which was inclined to lay in.
For some distance over the final 100 Metres, K C Leung, the rider of the winner DEJA VU, was unable to use his whip which became entangled in the horse's mane.
Passing the 100 Metres, I'M THE WON FOR U, which was closing off the race strongly, was momentarily held up for clear running and switched to the inside of BEAR RAPPER to continue improving.
When questioned, N Rawiller stated that at its last start MODERN FORTUNE tended to over-race when ridden into a forward position in the early stages.
He said with anticipated stronger tempo in today's race, it was decided to ride MODERN FORTUNE where it was comfortable and consequently the horse settled behind midfield.
He added MODERN FORTUNE travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, however, was most disappointing in the manner in which it failed to close off the race.
A veterinary inspection of MODERN FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
RESPECT, DEJA VU and HELEN'S CHOICE were sent for sampling.

Deja Vu settled one off the fence in fifth, rounded the final bend six deep, poked his head in front 100m out and just held off Helen's Choice to open his win account at his seventh start. Helen's Choice settled three deep with cover travelling worse than midfield, swung the final bend with one wider out and finished willingly to just miss. Bear Rapper enjoyed a lovely run on the back of the speed, eased into the open five deep upon straightening, hit the front 150m out and was swamped in the final few metres. He was anchored by the big weight. I'm The Won For U ducked-and-weaved to come from dead last to give the Quartet some value. Specked late, Lansbury blew up on his run 100m out after hitting the front 250m out following a rails run in midfield. He was in need of the run off an injury break. Favourite Respect was grinding away without menacing with three wider out after travelling one off the fence worse than midfield. Formula Galore poked his head in front 300m out after stalking the speed but was stopping 150m out in his first go on the surface. Modern Fortune made some ground without ever looking a chance after travelling second from the rear. Specked at big odds, Snow Slider faded passing the 200m after a prominent run without cover near the speed.
