Favourite Line Seeker jumped very well to lead from gate three, cornered a half-length on top from second favourite Forever Red and drew clear to make it three on the bounce this season despite a switch to the Valley. Imperial Champion finished nicely to grab second at cricket score odds when ridden quietly for a change from a wide gate. Rainbow Fighter plugged on following a box-seat run for a placing. Golden Deer ran on steadily with three wider out after biding his time third from the rear to further add value to the Quartet. Wonderful Journey stayed on reasonably well near the inside following a rails run three back to just miss a Quartet spot in a pleasing debut effort. Peace N Prosperity came up one-paced over the final 100m following a prominent run with cover. Second favourite Forever Red was stopping 150m out after parking outside the leader in the run. General Iron didn't have much left in the tank 100m out after a torrid run in midfield. Specked late, Gracydad never got going after travelling fourth from the rear in his first outing at the Valley.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (526)-TAI HANG HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Metres

Mr C Fownes, the trainer of IMPERIAL CHAMPION, stated that the horse had not been settling in its races and had travelled too keenly and as a consequence had not been finishing off its races.

He said therefore he instructed G Lerena to shift the horse across behind runners in the early stages and ride it quietly in the hope that it would be able to close off the race stronger than it had been in its recent starts.

Accordingly IMPERIAL CHAMPION was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, AMBER DRAGON failed to muster speed and shortly after the start was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

Making the turn after the 1100 Metres, PEACE N PROSPERITY was crowded for room between FOREVER RED and LINE SEEKER which shifted out.

In this incident, FOREVER RED became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by PEACE N PROSPERITY.

After racing very wide making the turn after the 1100 Metres, GENERAL IRON, HELLA HEDGE and BORNTOACHIEVE were all steadied after entering the Back Straight in an attempt to obtain cover.

HELLA HEDGE was however left racing wide and without cover after the 800 Metres.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, WONDERFUL JOURNEY shifted out and bumped GENERAL IRON on a number of occasions, resulting in that horse being awkwardly placed close to the heels of PEACE N PROSPERITY.

Near the 100 Metres, GOLDEN DEER shifted out towards the heels of PEACE N PROSPERITY when improving into tight running between that horse and FOREVER RED.

G Lerena (IMPERIAL CHAMPION) was warned against the practice of raising his whip arm above the height of his shoulder.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FOREVER RED, J Moreira stated that he had to make more use of the horse in the early stages than had been hoped in order to cross PEACE N PROSPERITY to its inside.

He said it was not until near the 800 Metres that he was able to cross that horse.

He said FOREVER RED was then able to travel outside the eventual winner LINE SEEKER, however, due to the use made of it in the early stages of the race FOREVER RED came under pressure rounding the Home Turn and then was not able to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of FOREVER RED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LINE SEEKER and IMPERIAL CHAMPION were sent for sampling.

28 March 2016 Sha Tin Racemeeting - Race 11 (518) The Stewards tonight interviewed Apprentice K K Chiong regarding her riding of PIKACHU in this race.

Apprentice Chiong stated that she had been asked to have the horse racing in a handy position on this occasion, however, PIKACHU was slow to begin and consequently was left racing at the rear of the field.

She said after initially riding her mount along in an endeavour to make up some lost ground, PIKACHU was following RACING HERO approaching and passing the 1200 Metres.

She said that in advance of RACING HERO, she felt that it may have been possible to obtain a three wide position and for this reason she allowed PIKACHU to improve its way forward of RACING HERO, however, PIKACHU was not able to shift in due to runners being positioned to its inside and for this reason PIKACHU was left racing in a four wide position without cover.

Apprentice Chiong agreed that in retrospect after being slow to begin, she should have allowed PIKACHU to remain racing with cover towards the rear.

Apprentice Chiong was advised to ensure that, wherever possible, she does not cover unnecessary ground so as to afford horses ridden by her the opportunity to finish off their race.
