All Win Boy bided his time third from the rear, pushed widest out upon straightening and finished willingly to get up in the final few metres for the win with money coming for him late. Back In Black settled three back along the fence, rushed to the lead 200m out and found one too good in the end. Tango Fire settled one off the fence worse than midfield, rounded the final bend with two wider out and finished well to grab third in the shadows of the post. Mission Possible saved ground behind midfield, worked to second 100m out and was swamped for a placing. Good Choice finished nicely near the inside to nearly give the Quartet some value after travelling second from the rear. Both Lucky settled one off the fence behind midfield, was balked for a run six deep between runners at the 220m and finished reasonably well with clear running soon after. Plunged late, Breeders' Star enjoyed a lovely run in the box seat behind the leader Beauty Master, poked his head in front near the inside at the 250m and was stopping 100m out. Generous Bobo didn't click with three wider out following a one-out, one-back run. Beauty Master was struggling 200m out after being pressured on the lead by All Great Friends.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (507)-BROOM HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Metres

At declaration time, H W Lai was declared as the rider of both BREEDERS' STAR and GOOD CHOICE.

It was established that H W Lai had a firm commitment to ride BREEDERS' STAR.

As such, the Stewards permitted Apprentice H N Wong to be substituted as the rider of GOOD CHOICE.

For this declaration error, H W Lai was fined $2,000.

EXCELLENCE began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was crowded for room between BREEDERS' STAR and ALL WIN BOY which shifted in.

From a wide barrier, GOOD CHOICE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Also from a wide barrier, when being steadied to be shifted across behind runners, BOTH LUCKY was momentarily crowded for room near the 1150 Metres between ALL GREAT FRIENDS and GENEROUS BOBO which was taken out by BEAUTY MASTER which got its head on the side and shifted out away from HAPPY BAO BEI.

Despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, MISSION POSSIBLE failed to muster speed.

After the 800 Metres, TANGO FIRE got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HAPPY BAO BEI.

ALL GREAT FRIENDS travelled wide and without cover until passing the 700 Metres.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, BEAUTY MASTER got its head on the side, lay out and would not shift over to race on the rail.

Passing the 400 Metres, HAPPY BAO BEI got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GENEROUS BOBO.

For some distance near the 250 Metres, BOTH LUCKY (G Lerena) raced very close to the heels of BEAUTY MASTER when attempting to improve between BEAUTY MASTER and ALL GREAT FRIENDS where there was insufficient room.

In this incident, BEAUTY MASTER became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters.

G Lerena was severely reprimanded and advised that his riding at this stage of the race came close to breaching the Rules of Racing.

He was advised that at all times he must ride with appropriate judgement and have due regard for the safety and welfare not only for himself but others in the race.

A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY MASTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

ALL WIN BOY and BACK IN BLACK were sent for sampling.

GENERAL:

1.

20 March 2016 Sha Tin Racemeeting - Race 3 (492) After reviewing the videos, the Stewards considered it appropriate to interview Z Purton regarding his riding of MR PICASSO in this race.

Z Purton stated that he had been asked to ride the horse in a similar manner to which he rode it at its only other race start in Hong Kong over the course and distance.

He said on that occasion he was asked, from a wide barrier, to allow the horse to settle in the early stages and obtain a position with cover.

He said at its first race start MR PICASSO began well and he steadied the horse shortly after the start and was able to obtain a position just worse than midfield with cover.

He said in this race he rode the horse in an identical fashion out of the barriers in that after it began well, he steadied MR PICASSO in order to obtain cover.

He said SHINING CHAMPION, which was drawn to the inside of MR PICASSO, was ridden along in the early stages and he steadied MR PICASSO to obtain a position with cover behind that horse.

He said however that it took some time for him to be able to shift in across behind SHINING CHAMPION which allowed a number of runners to his inside to maintain or improve their positions.

He said making the first turn he was racing four wide outside HAPPY SOUND, so he elected to steady MR PICASSO and obtain a position with cover behind that horse.

He added near the 650 Metres he rode his mount along to improve between RICCO RICCO and HAPPY SOUND, however, MR PICASSO became unbalanced when buffeted between those horses for a short distance.

He said after this MR PICASSO came off the bridle and then, despite being ridden along after the 500 Metres, was unable to improve its position between RICCO RICCO and POLYMER LUCK which afforded RICCO RICCO the opportunity to shift out at the entrance to the Straight.

He said as there was clear running in advance of MR PICASSO, he immediately rode his mount along and placed it under full pressure.

He further stated that in the Straight MR PICASSO raced greenly and was inclined to lay in, but was still able to finish off well.

He said although MR PICASSO raced further back in this race than had been hoped, he believed the wide barrier and the make-up of the field on the first turn had been the reason for this.

He said also MR PICASSO's chances were not aided by the race being run at a slow tempo.

Mr D J Hall, the trainer of MR PICASSO, confirmed the instructions given to Jockey Purton in that the horse was to be ridden in an identical manner to the way it was ridden over the course and distance from a similar draw at its only other race start.

He said the circumstances of the race in the early stages were different in this race to the horse's first start and he was comfortable that due to these circumstances Jockey Purton was obliged to steady the horse further back in the field to obtain cover.
