Recap by phillip woo
In a thrilling finish, top-rated Sun Jewellery was handy in the run along the fence, rallied five deep upon straightening, shifted inside for a clear run at the 300m, poked his head in front 60m out and kept battling away to just notch a sixth win from seven starts despite a rise in trip. Favourite Werther settled one off the fence beyond midfield, swung the final bend with two wider out and stayed on dourly to make it tight on the wire. He'll be looking forward to the extra 200m in next month's Derby. Blizzardfound the front 250m out after travelling without cover fore of midfield and just went down in a nail-biter. It was a huge run in defeat. Eastern Express settled a distant second behind Green Dispatch, assumed the front 350m out and kept up a strong gallop to finish level for third in a terrific run despite being badly out-handicapped. Giovanni Canaletto was ridden for luck at the rear of the field, straightened five deep and finished well despite drifting out under pressure to finish a respectable fifth. He's crying out for a longer trip. Friends Of Ka Ying made some ground near the inside without menacing after settling second from the rear. McQueen came up flat over the final 200m following a box-seat run.
