Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Military Attack settled midfield along the fence, rounded the final bend four deep and quickened nicely to get up 100m out for the win. Blazing Speed was posted deep early on until settling one-out, one-back at the 1,200m, worked to the front five deep at the 300m and found one better on the day. Beauty Only was closing the gap with every stride one from the far outside after being ridden patiently at the tail of the field to make it close at the finish despite a track favouring the front-runners. He'll be winning a major race soon. Late-fancied favourite Helene Happy Star moved to third 150m out with two wider out following a one-off run worse than midfield and came up one-paced over the last 100m. Dominant ran on steadily five deep after travelling third from the rear to just miss a Quartet spot. Khaya was stopping 150m out after clearing to the front 1,550m. Top Act had no excuse following a box-seat run with a step up in class.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (193)-THE LONGINES JOCKEY CLUB CUP - Group Two - 2000Metres

BLAZING SPEED shifted out abruptly at the start, resulting in PACKING LLAREGYB being badly crowded for room inside TOP ACT.

In this incident, BLAZING SPEED became unbalanced.

From the outside barrier, BEAUTY ONLY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After being slow to begin, KHAYA was vigorously ridden along to make up lost ground and passing the winning post on the first occasion was steadied away from the heels of BLAZING SPEED.

KHAYA was then shifted away from the heels of BLAZING SPEED and allowed to improve its position into the lead.

Near the 1800 Metres, BLAZING SPEED got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to allow TOP ACT to cross.

Near the 1400 Metres, HELENE SUPER STAR was momentarily crowded for room inside KHAYA (N Rawiller) which shifted in when not properly clear before being directed out to relieve the tightening to HELENE SUPER STAR.

N Rawiller was advised to exercise more care in future.

DOMINANT was held up for clear running until near the 300 Metres and then approaching the 100 Metres was shifted in away from the heels of MILITARY ATTACK.

Close to the finishing line, HELENE HAPPY STAR was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BLAZING SPEED.

After the race, D Whyte was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of HELENE SUPER STAR which weakened in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of HELENE SUPER STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BLAZING SPEED, which lost its right hind plate near the 1100 Metres, was found after the race to have sustained a small wound to the outside heel of that foot.

A veterinary inspection of TOP ACT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HELENE HAPPY STAR, MILITARY ATTACK and BLAZING SPEED were sent for sampling.
