Recap by phillip woo

Raging favourite Born To Win enjoyed a soft time on the lead, straightened three lengths on top and kept up a good gallop for the win after a pleasing first-up run this term. Leading Horse went forward out deep from a wide gate to eventually land a spot one off in fourth 800m out, straightened five deep and wore down Floral Spur 100m out for second in a much-improved second-up effort. Floral Spur eased out three deep coming to the final bend following a box-seat run, worked to second 300m out and grudgingly gave way over the last 100m in a better second run as well. Plunged late, Fortune Giggles ran on well along the inside after travelling third from the rear to fill a Quartet spot in an improved run after a stable change. He'll relish a rise in trip. Oscar Miracle yielded ground 150m out after sitting one off in second from a wide gate. Fine With Me only held his ground five deep in the drive following a one-off run with cover behind midfield. Bold Stick was very slow into stride and never looked likely. Island Garden weakened soon after straightened after a no-cover run from beyond midfield. Fantasticlife never was a factor after travelling second from the rear in another disappointing performance at this level.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (039)-STUDENT SERVICE HANDICAP (Sec1) - Class 4 - 1400Metres

HARD BALL GET was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore).

Before being allowed to race again, HARD BALL GET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

As the start was effected, BOLD STITCH bounded in the air and lost a considerable amount of ground.

After this, BOLD STITCH lost its right front plate.

Before being allowed to race again, BOLD STITCH will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

FANTASTICLIFE began only fairly and then shortly after the start was crowded for room between FINE WITH ME and FLORAL SPUR which shifted in.

After this, FANTASTICLIFE was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed.

WEALTHY FORTUNE shifted out at the start and bumped FORTUNE GIGGLES which became unbalanced.

Near the 950 Metres, FINE WITH ME was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LEADING HORSE.

After the 400 Metres, BOLD STITCH got its head on the side, lay in and brushed the running rail.

For the majority of the race, ISLAND GARDEN travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of FANTASTICLIFE immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being allowed to race again, FANTASTICLIFE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on ISLAND GARDEN at the request of Trainer P O'Sullivan.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, ISLAND GARDEN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

BORN TO WIN and LEADING HORSE were sent for sampling.
