Helene's Choice settle third from the back and one off the rails from the widest gate, swung the final bend with two wider out and let down nicely to take control 120m out for an upset win. Dragon Energy was hard ridden to travel worse than midfield and one off the fence after a slow break, rounded the final bend five deep and finished well to make it close at the wire. Old-timer Easy Ahead travelled behind midfield along the fence, stayed to the inside upon straightening and ran on well to finish a clear third. Costa Del Sol travelled three deep with cover near the speed from a middle gate, rounded the final bend six deep and stayed on reasonably well to fill a Quartet spot. King On Earth made his run second from the rear, straightened four deep, shifted wider for a clear run at the 100m and ran on all right in his first go on the surface. Favourite Novel Start settled third behind runners, straightened one off with every chance and giving ground 150m out. Intellectual Glide was steadied three deep at the 210m and faded soon after in his dirt debut. Forever Fun set a genuine pace on the lead, cornered a length on top and was stopping badly 100m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (726)-CHAI WAN ROAD HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Metres

POSITIVE ENERGY began awkwardly and lost ground.

DRAGON ENERGY began awkwardly.

DIAMOND ANGEL shifted out at the start and bumped INTELLECTUAL GLIDE on a number of occasions, causing both horses to become unbalanced.

From the outside barrier, HELEN'S CHOICE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

For some distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, DIAMOND ANGEL was awkwardly placed inside INTELLECTUAL GLIDE which raced with its head on the side and lay in.

Making the first turn near the 700 Metres, MIGHTY GAINS was steadied away from the heels of COSTA DEL SOL after being bumped by INTELLECTUAL GLIDE.

After being ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, MIGHTY GAINS then travelled wide and without cover throughout the race and in the Straight gave ground.

Shortly after entering the Straight, COSTA DEL SOL became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by DRAGON ENERGY which shifted out to obtain clear running.

Throughout the race, NAMJONG SURPRISE travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of FOREVER FUN immediately following the race revealed the horse to have weal marks over the right flank.

B Prebble (FOREVER FUN) was fined $3,000 for improper use of the whip in that he raised weal marks over the horse's right flank.

A veterinary inspection of NOVEL START and INTELLECTUAL GLIDE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

NOVEL START, HELEN'S CHOICE and DRAGON ENERGY were sent for sampling.
