Early favourite Wonderful Fighter settled in the box seat after jumping alertly, rounded the final bend three deep and took control 200m out for a first win at his ninth start. Late-fancied favourite Happy Meteor travelled three back along the fence, pulled out three deep at the 200m and finished well to grab second 50m out in an improved run. Pearl Win travelled one out, one back, rounded the final bend five deep and closed well to pip Fruitful Champion for a placing. Fruitful Champion easily found the front 1,000m out, straightened just over a length on top and grudgingly gave way. Regency Baby went forward from a wide gate to park second without cover, swung the final bend four deep and kept on reasonably in his first run back after throat surgery. Joyful The Great was posted without cover for the entire trip fore of midfield from a wide gate and came up one-paced in the run to the wire with two wider out. Confucius Spirit made some ground down the outside after travelling second from the rear from a wide gate. Peace On Earth settled one off the fence in midfield, worked into the clear with one wider out at the 250m and never responded when popped the question. Step Faster, who was travelling behind midfield, was hampered 800m out when Gideon came down badly.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (721)-TAI YAU HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Metres

STRATUM POWER was slow to begin.

WONDERFUL FIGHTER shifted out at the start, resulting in FRUITFUL CHAMPION becoming unbalanced after being bumped by that horse.

GIDEON shifted out shortly after the start and bumped PEACE ON EARTH.

From the outside barrier, CONFUCIUS SPIRIT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Despite being aggressively ridden in the early stages, TRENDY WORLD failed to muster speed.

After the 1000 Metres, JOYFUL THE GREAT was left racing wide and without cover.

Near the 850 Metres, GIDEON broke down and fell, resulting in its rider, K Teetan, being dislodged.

STEP FASTER, which was following, blundered badly when unable to avoid GIDEON, resulting in its rider, C Y Ho, becoming badly unbalanced.

CONFUCIUS SPIRIT and STRATUM POWER were also severely checked when attempting to avoid GIDEON.

TRENDY WORLD was also hampered.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GIDEON had sustained injuries to both front legs.

Near the 450 Metres, PEACE ON EARTH dipped.

Approaching the 200 Metres, PEARL WIN and JOYFUL THE GREAT raced tight.

The performance of STRATUM POWER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, STRATUM POWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of PEACE ON EARTH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

WONDERFUL FIGHTER and HAPPY METEOR were sent for sampling.

Samples were also taken from GIDEON.
