Recap by phillip woo

Raging favourite Able Friend settled second from the rear in a compact six-horse field, swung the final bend widest out, cruised to the front 200m out and drew clear under a canter for a sixth straight win. Rewarding Hero bided his time at the tail of the field, straightened one from the right and finished nicely to snatch second from Dan Excel in the final few metres. Dan Excel was crawling on the lead, cornered a length on top and came up one-paced over the last 100m. Real Specialist only went by the faltering Secret Sham following a box-seat run. Secret Sham settled one off in second and didn't have much to offer over the final 150m. He's not up to this class. Luger travelled fourth and one off the rails but appeared to go amiss and was eased down 100m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (586)-THE CHAMPIONS MILE - Group One - 1600Metres

REWARDING HERO began awkwardly.

Passing the 1500 Metres, REAL SPECIALIST was steadied away from the heels of DAN EXCEL which shifted in.

REWARDING HERO lost its right front plate at the 350 Metres.

Over the concluding stages, REAL SPECIALIST was awkwardly placed inside REWARDING HERO which shifted in under pressure before becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of ABLE FRIEND.

A veterinary inspection of LUGER immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being allowed to race again, LUGER will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

LUGER, ABLE FRIEND and REWARDING HERO were sent for sampling.
