Race Six: (155)-THE HONG KONG COUNTRY CLUB CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1650Metres
From a wide barrier, RIYADH was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.Passing the winning post on the first occasion, AMAZINGLY raced tight between GOOD CHOICE and TURBO JEWELLERY.
After the 1300 Metres, REGENCY KING was momentarily steadied away from the heels of SMART BALL (M Chadwick) which shifted in when not properly clear.
M Chadwick was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future.
Passing the 1000 Metres, GALAXY PRANCER got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of STARTING OVER.
Passing the 150 Metres, KA YING KID was shifted in away from the heels of REGENCY KING to obtain clear running.
When questioned regarding the performance of VERDANE, M Demuro stated that from the wide barrier he was obliged to ride his mount quietly in the early stages to avoid covering ground.
He said the slow tempo of the race did not suit VERDANE and the horse was not able to show a turn of foot when the pace quickened.
A veterinary inspection of VERDANE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

TURBO JEWELLERY and REGENCY KING were sent for sampling.

Turbo Jewellery was given a good ride to land one-out, one-back from a tricky gate, rallied four deep upon straightening and got up in the final stride to nail favourite Regency King for the win. Regency King settle outside leader Smart Ball, worked to the front three deep at the 60m and was nipped on the wire. Ka Ying Kid enjoyed a box-seat run, came two off upon straightening, duck underneath Regency King at the 100m and stayed on gamely to make it interesting at the wire. Smart Ball enjoyed an easy time when crossing to lead from a wide gate at the 1,250m, straightened a length on top and was swamped late for a placing. Good Choice was a handy fifth along the rails, angled into the clear five deep soon after straightening and ran on steadily to just miss a First-4 spot. Starting Over ran on well with two wider out from behind midfield despite an unfavourable pace. Amazingly made his run one off the rails in midfield, turned the final bend with three wider out and made a mild bid without ever looking a threat. Classic Jewellery made an even bid from behind midfield. Verdane wasn't suited by the pace after making his run second from the rear from a wide gate.
