Recap by phillip woo
Firming late to nearly jump favourite, Kabayan was quietly ridden second from the rear and one off the rails, peeled widest coming to the final bend and let down well to take control 50m out for the win off a light weight. Beauty Flame led from gate nine, cornered nearly two lengths on top and kept on gamely to just shade post-time favourite Dundonnell for second. Dundonnell settled three back along the rails, pulled out three deep at the 300m and stayed on well to make it a photo for the minors. Mizani settled third from the rear after a sluggish break, slightly inconvenienced passing the 200m after swing the final bend with three wider out and stayed on all right to just finish out of the placings. He was in need of the run for his new trainer off a lengthy break and will be hard to keep out of the finish next start up to a mile. Mr Gnocchi settled one off in second outside Super Lifeline, cornered two deep and was one-paced over the 200m. Super Lifeline box-seated in the run, was held in a pocket until the 200m and kept on evenly thereafter. Winning Leader travelled midfield and one off the rails, couldn't force his way out for a clear run with two further out at the 400m and only held his ground with clear running at the 200m. He had excuses.
