Trainer Frankie Lor Fu-chuen and jockey Vincent Ho Chak-yiu cannot wait to see what Dream Winner can do next season after the precocious three-year-old made it three wins from as many starts at Sha Tin on Saturday.
Sent off $1.2 for the Class Three Riding High Together Handicap (1,000m), Dream Winner settled just off a strong speed set by Super Axiom and Cheval Valiant before coasting to a two-length victory.
“He’s a nice horse. I’ll put him away for next season – he’s still young and still improving,” Lor said.
Dream Winner was forced to lug 132 pounds after consecutive 12-point penalties from the handicappers, but it mattered little, and the son of Exosphere will find himself well inside Class Two company when he returns.
He makes it look very easy... 😳

“It was a bit tougher with this weight. I’m glad this is his last run, and that he’ll have a break now, because he’s still young and the weight penalty isn’t ideal for him,” Ho said.
“I’m glad he can recover now and be more mature next season. He’s still raw. Of course, he’s a nice horse.”
There was also plenty of action off the track at the Jockey Club’s Hong Kong Reunification Raceday on Saturday’s public holiday, with almost 20,000 fans rolling through the gates on a day that entry to the public enclosure was free.
Cantopop singer Gigi Yim entertained a packed parade ring before the first race, and there were other performances throughout the twilight fixture.
Jockey Club officials met with representatives from the Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province (GDSB) and the Administration of Sports of Guangzhou Municipality (GZSB) to “deepen cooperation to promote the sports industry in the Greater Bay Area (GBA)” as part of the Chinese government’s National Equine Industry Development Plan (2020-2025).
“To support the development of the GBA and the implementation of the national development strategy for the equine industry, the GDSB and the club reached a consensus to jointly promote sports industry development in Guangdong and Hong Kong. The GDSB and the club will continue existing cooperation and will strengthen collaboration in multiple areas including equine sports and equine industry development, sports events, sports industry development, and integrity management.
“To promote equine sports and equine industry development in the GBA, the GDSB will support the club’s Conghua Racecourse in Guangzhou to hold international-standard races, while the club will support GDSB’s Guangdong Equestrian League, youth equestrian development blueprint, and equine industry talent development.
This year’s Hong Kong International Sale crop ‘a bit more seasoned’
“In addition, the GZSB and the club agreed to jointly promote sports industry development in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.”
Meanwhile, a Zoustar gelding topped the weekend’s Hong Kong International Sale, with Angela Yeung Kit-ming going to HK$8.6 million for the eye-catching chestnut.
Romantic Warrior’s owner, Peter Lau Pak-fai, splashed HK$8.4 million on a No Nay Never gelding as the sale’s 15 lots sold for a total of HK$71.6 million, a slight increase on last year.
