So that’s that then. The moment we had all been waiting for turns into something of an anti-climax.

There’s to be no third gold for Hong Kong, as Siobhan Haughey ends up taking bronze in the women’s 100m freestyle.

It hasn’t been a great day for the city’s athletes all round. After a 24-hour delay, the men’s triathlon finally took place, and it didn’t end well for Jason Ng Tai-long, who was lapped on the bike and eliminated.

Another busy day in Paris brought an emotional end for Hong Kong’s Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet in mixed doubles badminton.

But there was a stunning performance in the pool from Pan Zhanle of China to round off the evening.
