Before the Paris Olympics started, the American forecasting company Nielsen Gracenote confidently predicted that China could win as many as 34 golds.

With two days of competition left they are at 33 and tied at the top of the medal table with the USA, and both countries are doing their best to defy expectations and those predictions, just not always in a good way.

If you watched the dumpster fire that was the American men in the 4x100-metre relay earlier this morning you’ll know what I’m talking about.

But you probably didn’t, which is why you’re reading this, so we can tell you what you missed while you were sleeping.
