How to follow Hong Kong’s magic Monday? Repeat 50 per cent of the formula and add a confirmed table tennis medal match.
The extraordinary half-hour that brought fencing gold for Cheung Ka-long and swimming bronze for Siobhan Haughey at the end of day three will be difficult to top, let alone on the next day.
But Haughey dives straight back into the pool on Tuesday, and her second event could end with her on top of the podium rather than on its lowest step.
Table tennis player Doo Hoi-kem has the chance to emulate Haughey and Cheung by winning a medal in consecutive Games.

And Team USA gymnast Simone Biles is vying for her first Olympic gold medal since Rio 2016.
But first, bacteria in the River Seine take centre stage as we run through five things to watch on day four, with all schedules given in Hong Kong time.
Polluted Seine
The big question when Paris awoke concerned the state of a certain river.
There had been fears for months that the Seine would be too polluted to stage the swim leg of the Olympic triathlon.
Organisers had insisted everything would be fine, despite cancelling swimming training there for a second day in a row on Monday, because of poor water quality.
Sure enough, as 55 athletes prepared to take the plunge on Tuesday, the men’s race was postponed for that very reason.
Hong Kong’s interest in this event is limited to Jason Ng Tai-long’s fortunes – well, that plus joining everyone else in figuratively eating popcorn while Parisian sewage wreaks havoc.
If there are no improvements, they will scrap the swimming leg altogether.
Who’s up for a duathlon?

Table tennis crunch
One thing is for certain. Hong Kong will fight for a medal on Tuesday evening, courtesy of Doo and her playing partner Wong Chun-ting in the table tennis mixed doubles competition.
Doo and Wong play in the bronze medal match at 7.30pm against South Korea’s Lim Jong-hoon and Shin Yubin.
The South Koreans are seeded third and the Hongkongers fourth, so it looks an even-ish match-up as Doo tries to add to the bronze she won in the team comp at the last Games in Tokyo.
After that, at 8.30pm, is a highly intriguing clash for gold. China have paired women’s world No 1 Sun Yingsha with men’s world No 1 Wang Chuqin. The rest may as well not have bothered coming.
But wait, because in opposition are Ri Jong-sik and Kim Kum-yong, from North Korea, who before eliminating Hong Kong had sent the second-ranked Japanese packing.
Little had been seen of them before these Olympics, yet they’re now in the final. They couldn’t, could they?


Swimming: Siobhan goes again
Haughey has no time to dwell on her third place in a highly competitive 200 metres freestyle, because she returns to Paris La Defense Arena for the 100 metres freestyle heats at 6.47pm on Tuesday.
In all likelihood, she will cruise into the semi-finals, scheduled for 3.25am on Wednesday. The case for her winning gold the following night may be stronger here than in the 200m, because Haughey’s best times stand up against anyone’s.
She was ready for more after that 200m bronze, saying: “Hong Kong is doing really well at these Olympics and this is just the beginning.”

Gymnastic: Biles eyes No 5
The American icon is back on the mat as she looks to win her fifth Olympic gold and first since the 2016 Games, and she begins her attempt at 12.15am.
She will be competing for the women’s team title alongside teammates Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, Alice D’Amato and Jade Carey.
Their rivals for the podium spots are China, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Romania, Italy and Great Britain.

Football: Euro champs Spain
La Roja are aiming to continue their momentum and go one better than in Tokyo.
The men’s side, who lost to Brazil in the gold medal match three years ago, take on Egypt at 9pm in their Group C match.
Spain have already qualified for the knockout stages and are looking to make it a perfect group phase with three wins out of three.
