We had an early start in Paris, where four of China’s athletes were trying to add to the country’s medal tally in the marathon race walk mixed relay.

Zhang Jun and Yang Jiayu, along with other pairing He Xianghong and Qieyang Shiji, ultimately finished in the middle of the pack.

Other early starts came in the women’s golf and the taekwondo, although Hong Kong’s interest in the latter doesn’t kick in until tomorrow when Lo Wai-fung makes his debut in the men’s -68kg event.

China’s weightlifters took centre stage later and added to the country’s collection of gold, while the women’s hockey team beat Belgium to reach their final.

Given it’s the second week of the Olympics, there was also more athletics, with social media favourite Wu Yanni making her first appearance in women’s hurdles.

We’re here for all of it, so keep following our live coverage of the Paris Olympics.
