Lady Gaga’s performance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony sparked a buzz on Chinese social media, and the reactions were downright hilarious.
As the first artist to welcome athletes, Lady Gaga belted out her version of Mon Truc en Plumes by Zizi Jeanmaire, with 10 dancers swirling pink feathers and 17 musicians playing along.
Throughout Saturday, the hashtag “#Lady Gaga came out like a flamingo” has been trending on Weibo, referencing her eye-catching pink feather ensemble.
“I’m cracking up, but this outfit is so Gaga. Seriously, who came up with this tag?” one user wrote.
“There was a second I was worried she’d fall, but the next, I was like, she’s Lady Gaga. There’s no way she will fall,” another user commented.


While the superstar managed to avoid any mishaps as she emerged from the feathers and walked down the steps, eagle-eyed Chinese netizens spotted one of her dancers almost taking a tumble.
And they quickly turned it into a viral GIF.
Gaga’s performance was part of the first section, or “tableau,” of the 12-part opening ceremony. Each tableau has a theme, with the first one being “Enchante,” meaning “nice to meet you” in French.
“Bonsoir! Bienvenue a Paris!” Lady Gaga shouted during her performance.
Gaga later took to X to express her gratitude to Paris for hosting her version of this French classic and shared her deep connection to the French people and their culture.
“To everyone in France, thank you so much for welcoming me to your country to sing in honour of you – it’s a gift I’ll never forget!” Gaga posted on X, which at the time of writing has racked up 165,000 likes and 28,000 reshares.
