Hong Kong’s CrossFit community gets together to raise money for local charities who help rescue dogs and shelters
- The 2021 PupFit event raised HK$147,000 for local charities including Catherine’s Puppies and the Sai Kung Stray Foundation
- Many who practice the sport regularly take their pets to the ‘box’ with them
Three year old French Bulldog Dela, who is a rescue dog, has taught her owner Stephanie Poelman a thing or two.
“Patience,” Poelman said. “And of course unconditional love.”
Poelman is a member of CrossFit Asphodel, which hosted the 2021 PupFit charity event on Saturday that helps raise money for local charities including Catherine’s Puppies and the Sai Kung Stray Foundation.
So far they have raised more than HK$147,000 and Poelman, who has been doing CrossFit for 11 years and has lived in Hong Kong for four, said adopting a rescue dog has been a lot of work, but has been equally rewarding.
“We got her when she was twelve weeks old, we think, and she’s very much a companion dog and very friendly with humans. She was a runt, the smallest of the litter. She had to have surgery on her eyes and I’ve always called her the underdog. Being the runt she’s always had to prove herself a little bit more.”
