Hong Kong triathlete Elg storms to Asia U23 title, warning for Choi after Japan World Cup race
Triathlon relays set for Saudi Arabia on Sunday, two Hongkongers claim podium spots in Saturday’s races.
The “very talented” Robin Elg retained his men’s individual crown at the 2024 Asia Triathlon Junior, U23 & mixed relay championships in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Elg, who won the 2023 race in Japan, recently made his senior World Triathlon Championship Series debut in Weihai, where he duelled with the three medallists from this summer’s Olympic Games.
And the gifted Hongkonger’s increasing elite experience bore fruit, as he proved too strong for the 38 rivals trying to wrest away his title over the triathlon sprint distance in Jubail.
“I am extremely proud of him, he’s been beaten down a lot and he gets back up every time,” said Andrew Wright, the Hong Kong head coach. “He’s a very talented boy.”
There was more good news for Hong Kong in the women’s U23 race, where Cade Wright and Tallulah Wright finished second and sixth, respectively.
“The two girls’ talent is beginning to shine through and they are knocking on the door for major games selection going forward,” said Wright, exactly one year before the 2025 National Games of China get under way.
