Head coach Hervé Dagorne says his Hong Kong cycling team’s plans for 2025 are being compromised by the sport’s world governing body’s stalling over dates and venues for next year’s UCI Track Nations Cup.

Last month, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced the first leg of their Nations Cup would be staged in Turkey, in March.

However, cycling federations around the world remained in the dark over when and where the second and third legs would happen.

Dagorne said he “could feel the UCI was struggling” when they contacted him to ask if Hong Kong would host a leg in April. The city staged a Track Nations Cup in March this year, and also hosted in 2021.

“Hong Kong is the best in terms of organising and the UCI knew, if it was here, everyone would be happy,” Dagorne said. “It’s not possible, though, because we have a National Games test event, then [November’s] National Games. The next Nations Cup here will be in 2026.”

Aside from not having specific dates for cyclists to target their racing condition, Dagorne was having to wait to approve other races and camps.
