All eyes will be on Bosnian-Swedish racing driver Dino Beganovic on Sunday as the Formula One hopeful attempts to overcome an 11th-place start on the grid to win the Macau Grand Prix.

Beganovic started Saturday’s FIA FR World Cup Qualifying Race in 15th place after crashing out of qualifying the day before. American Ugo Ugochukwu won both to secure pole position for Sunday’s race, the curtain closer to the city’s four-day event.

This weekend marks the 71st edition of the Macau Grand Prix, and it is also the first time drivers will compete in Formula Regional machinery.

“Macau is something very special and certainly one of my favourite races,” Beganovic said earlier this week. “There’s a reason I wanted to come back, and that’s because it’s simply unique.”

The 6.2-kilometre Guia Circuit on the streets of Macau is considered to be one of the most demanding in the world, and red flags are a common occurrence.

This year’s event had an added layer of difficulty, too. Normally contested under hot, humid and sticky conditions, on Saturday, drivers wrestled rain that at some points only affected Lisboa corner.
