Siobhan Haughey tries Chinese opera in Shanghai before World Aquatics Swimming World Cup
Hongkonger dons traditional costume as she joins China’s Zhang Yufei and Pan Zhanle for first leg of three-weekend event
Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey and fellow swimming world record-holders and Olympic medallists have been learning about traditional Chinese opera as they gear up for the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Shanghai this weekend.
Haughey, who won two bronze medals at this year’s Paris Olympics, donned opera attire and waved hand fans alongside Italian swimmer Thomas Ceccon, who won gold in the 100 metres backstroke in Paris.
Earlier in the day, Haughey, 26, visited the Oriental Pearl Tower, where she posed for pictures with Chinese swimmers Zhang Yufei and Pan Zhanle, and Frenchman Leon Marchand.
At the Paris Games, Zhang picked up five bronze medals and a silver, and Pan two golds and a silver. Marchand became the fourth swimmer in Olympic history to win four individual gold medals at a single Games.
Haughey is one of seven Hongkongers competing in Shanghai, the first leg of the three-weekend event. The event heads to Incheon next week before ending in Singapore on November 2.
