Great Britain teen Hugo Peel said the World Lacrosse Super Sixes in Hong Kong was a notable step towards his 2028 Olympic ambitions.

Peel was outstanding for the tournament winners, scoring 19 goals in five matches and showing the speed and technique that have made the 18-year-old one of the sport’s most exciting prospects.

The express Super Sixes format, described by Britain coach Tom Wenham as “brutal and unforgiving”, was devised only in 2021. But it captured imaginations in Olympic circles and the sport has been added to the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

For Peel, who showed promise in tennis before settling on lacrosse, the inclusion validated the commitment since he first picked up a stick, aged six.

“I am buzzing that the game I love is going to be in the Olympics,” he said.

“Los Angeles is a huge goal, and it motivates me every day when I am training. It is a great opportunity to be among people who are completely dedicated to their sports.
