Sports fans spend more time sitting in front of a screen than most, especially when the league they follow is on another time zone, and this year has been no exception.

What has been markedly different is that much of the year saw no live sport at all as the coronavirus pandemic spread throughout the world.

With normal service interrupted there was a lot of time to fill but there was also plenty to fill it, with several stand-out sporting documentaries stepping up to the plate in the absence of the drama of live sport.

Here are some of the best of the last 12 months – and if you’ve not watched them, get them queued up for the next wave of the pandemic that you have to ride out from the comfort of the sofa.

ESPN and Netflix’s co-production was pushed forward a few months and became prime time pandemic viewing. The story of the final season of the Chicago Bulls side of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, it introduced a generation to the talents of Jordan in particular.
