When it comes to the animal kingdom some terrible things have happened in the name of sport over the years.

Animals fighting to the death and hunting them for sport have been low points, and largely eradicated or driven underground as shared sentiment has become more animal friendly over time, although some such as goose pulling (do not ask) still go on in public view.

There are plenty more wholesome sports which involve animals or at least those where the humans are more likely to get hurt – after signing the appropriate waiver, probably.

Here are some of the weirdest animal sports from around the world.

Buffalo racing takes place at the annual Kambala festival in India and the sport came to light recently when two Indian buffalo racers, including Srinivas Gowda, recorded faster 100m times than Usain Bolt, albeit with the aid of the buffalo and recorded over a longer distance and adjusted accordingly.

This was overshadowed when Britney Spears claimed to go even faster – doing 100m in 5.97 seconds.
