Australia utility back James O'Connor will battle Quade Cooper in an unofficial audition for the Wallabies flyhalf position ahead of the British and Irish Lions tour when he starts at pivot for the Melbourne Rebels' Super Rugby match on Friday. South Korea launches basketball fixing probe
South Korean prosecutors say they are investigating a professional basketball coach for alleged match-fixing, following similar scandals in the nation's soccer and volleyball leagues. "The investigation is under way," a spokesman from the prosecutors' office in Uijeongbu said. The coach, whose name was not revealed, allegedly received 30 million won (HK$211,800) from a gambler about two years ago. AFP
 
French consider taking Armstrong honour
Lance Armstrong faces the prospect of losing his Legion of Honour medal after French officials said they would start an inquiry following his admission that he doped during his Tour de France wins. Armstrong was awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur in 2005, recognising his seven consecutive Tour victories. "An inquiry will be opened to see if there is cause or not to take it away," a spokesman said. AP
 
Penguins rally to cut the Lightning down
Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin scored less than two minutes apart in the third period and the Pittsburgh Penguins rallied past the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3. Chris Kunitz added his 12th of the season for Pittsburgh and James Neal scored an empty-net goal in the final minute as the Lightning suffered a fifth straight loss.
