ONE Championship: Jonathan Di Bella, Prajanchai PK Saenchaigym to face off for vacant strawweight kickboxing world title
- The two were scheduled to meet in April at ONE Friday Fights 58, but the Canadian fell ill and was stripped of his title
- Di Bella is out to reclaim his belt while world strawweight Muay Thai champ Prajanchai will try to be champion in two sports
The strawweight kickboxing world title match between Jonathan Di Bella and Prajanchai PK Saenchaigym, which was scheduled for earlier this year, has been rebooked for ONE Friday Fights 68 at Lumpinee stadium in Bangkok on June 28.
The two were scheduled to face off in April in the co-headline bout of ONE Friday Fights 58, but the fight was cancelled when the Canadian was hospitalised after falling ill during the weigh-in, failing the weight and hydration tests, and was stripped of his title.
Afterwards, ONE Championship founder/CEO Chatri Sityodtong expressed his sympathy for Di Bella and promised to reschedule the fight for the vacant belt at the earliest possible opportunity.
“After the weigh-ins he was sick, he was throwing up. He lost his belt for missing hydration but I want to do that fight probably next month, as both fighters are in good shape,” said Chatri.
“I am sure it will take a few weeks for Jonathan to recover from his flu but seeing as they are fit already I don’t think they need an eight-week camp.”
Chatri made those comments in April so it has taken slightly longer than expected to book the fight for the vacant belt.
