Denice Zamboanga has been preparing for ONE 167 by attempting to knock out her fiancé.
Fritz Biagtan, who is engaged to the Filipino fighter, has been one of her main sparring partners as she prepares for her coming bout against Noelle Grandjean at ONE 167 on June 8.
And Zamboanga will have plenty of frustration to take out on the man she plans to marry. Her proposed title shot fell through for a second time after Stamp Fairtex, the atomweight title holder, pulled out following a knee injury.
“He’s a flyweight, we train together and he’s one of my main training partners,” she told The Post of her fiancé. “The goal is to knock him out; the weight is different so it’s really hard, but that’s my goal.”
In 2019, she had originally been promised a title shot, but that was also cancelled after then champion Angela Lee fell pregnant.
Following the cancellation, Zamboanga was instead entered into the atomweight Grand Prix and matched with the favourite, Seo Hee Ham, in the opening round. Despite appearing to have done enough to win that fight, she lost by split decision in an outcome that created huge controversy.
