ONE Friday Fights 62: Hong Kong’s Phoebe Lo comes up short against Nongman
- Fairtex has second-round knockdown to thank at Lumpinee Stadium as she wins by unanimous decision
- Lo threatened an upset, but was knocked down at the end of the second round to leave her with too much to do
Phoebe Lo Tsz-ching of Hong Kong pushed Nongam Fairtex all the way at ONE Friday Fights 62 before losing by unanimous decision.
Nongman had won four in a row in these events at Lumpinee Stadium, and edged this three-round Muay Thai fight thanks largely to a second-round knockdown.
Lo made a strong start and found a home for her right body kick in the opening round of this catchweight contest, set at 110lbs. She snapped Nongam’s head back with straight punches and seemed to be more than holding her own against the 70-fight veteran.
With former ONE Championship bantamweight kickboxing champion Petchtanong Banchamek in her corner, Lo clearly got the better of the opening round. Nongam was more aggressive in the second but Lo stood her ground and fought fire with fire.
Lo looked well positioned to pull off an upset, but with 15 seconds remaining in the second round that changed as Nongam followed a straight right hand to the body with a left hook that dropped Lo.
