ONE Championship Fight Night 16 results: Jonathan Haggerty stops Fabricio Andrade to become two-sport champ
- Haggerty, ONE’s bantamweight Muay Thai champ, won the vacant kickboxing belt with a win over MMA champ Fabricio Andrade at Saturday card in Bangkok
- Tye Ruotolo also won a belt at the event, defeating Magomed Abdulkadirov on points to claim welterweight grappling gold
Jonathan Haggerty is now a world champion in both Muay Thai and kickboxing.
The British bantamweight won Muay Thai gold with a stunning knockout of Nong-O Hama earlier this year, and in the main event of Saturday’s ONE Fight Night 16 card in Bangkok, claimed the promotion’s vacant bantamweight kickboxing belt with a win over MMA champion Fabricio Andrade.
The Briton needed less than two rounds to chop his Brazilian foe down with a head kick and volley of follow-up strikes.
Haggerty was not the only fighter to pick up a new belt in Bangkok.
In the card’s co-main event, rising American star Tye Ruotolo claimed ONE’s vacant welterweight grappling title with a dominant decision win over Magomed Abdulkadirov. The new champion is the twin brother of Kade Ruotolo, who holds ONE’s lightweight grappling belt.
Before the titles were put up for grabs in Bangkok, fans inside the host Lumpinee Stadium were treated to an exciting decision win from Thailand’s Seksan Or Kwanmuang, who defeated Algeria’s Karim Bennoui in a 140-pound catchweight Muay Thai clash.
Turkish lightweight MMA contender Halil Amir also entertained on the card, stopping Pakistan’s Ahmed Mujtaba with strikes at the end of the first round.
