ONE Championship Fight Night 14 weigh-ins: Stamp Fairtex survives scare, Xiong Jingnan misses mark
- Stamp will battle Ham Seo-hee for interim atomweight MMA gold in Saturday’s main event, and needed the curtain to make weight
- China’s Xiong missed weight for special rules clash with Wondergirl, as John Lineker and Stephen Loman made last-gasp passes
Thursday night’s ONE Championship Fight Night 14 weight and hydration checks were full of drama, with Stamp Fairtex getting an early scare, and Xiong Jingnan ultimately missing her mark.
The 26-year-old Thai Stamp, who is set to fight South Korea’s Ham Seo-hee for ONE’s interim atomweight MMA title in the main event of the Saturday morning event in Singapore, was one of the final fighters on the testing stage inside the host Copthorne King’s Hotel.
She passed her first hydration test, but then ran into trouble on the scale, weighing in at 115.25lbs behind the curtain – a quarter of a pound above the limit for her title fight.
Stamp (10-2) later returned to the testing area and passed both her hydration and weight checks to a wave of applause from her team, making her title fight with Ham (26-8) official. The 36-year-old Korean passed both her checks on the first attempt.
Xiong Jingnan was not so lucky.
The Chinese star, ONE’s strawweight MMA champ, is set to meet Muay Thai transplant Wondergirl Jaroonsak in a special rules attraction on Saturday’s main card.
Unfortunately, their bout will now proceed as a catchweight after Xiong failed two hydration tests, and could not produce a third sample in the time allotted.
