UFC 270: Jon Jones unimpressed by Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane – ‘y’all ready for daddy?’
- Former light heavyweight champion goes on a customary tweet and delete spree as Ngannou defeats Gane by decision
- Jones confident he would easily beat both heavyweight fighters – ‘if this is the apex of heavyweight fighting, I’m excited’
Jon Jones was not impressed with what he saw in the UFC 270 main event.
The card, which went down on Saturday night in Anaheim, California, was topped by a heavyweight title fight between undisputed champion Francis Ngannou and interim champion Ciryl Gane. Ngannou (17-3), known as the most ferocious knockout artist in MMA today, won by unanimous decision, surprising many onlookers with a wrestling-heavy game plan.
Jones (26-1-0), however, was left questioning the skill of both fighters after their five-round championship bout concluded. The former UFC light heavyweight champion, who has long been teasing a move up to the heavyweight division, reacted to the fight on Twitter early on Sunday morning.
“If this is the apex of heavyweight fighting, I’m excited about it,” he wrote in a series of tweets. “Got some more records to break.
“I love how everyone gets so impressed with the new guy.”
In a tweet that was quickly deleted – as has become Jones’ custom – Jones added “at the end of the day I’m {expletive] both guys up”.
“Y’all ready for daddy?” he wrote in another deleted post during the fight.
