UFC 270: Ciryl Gane ‘best technical heavyweight striker in history’, Dana White says
- UFC president gushes over interim heavyweight champion, who takes on Francis Ngannou on Saturday night in Anaheim, California
- White also praises flyweight champ Brandon Moreno ahead of Deiveson Figueiredo trilogy – ‘it’s insane’ how popular he is, White says
UFC president Dana White is very impressed by Ciryl Gane, the promotion’s interim heavyweight champion, to say the least.
The 31-year-old Gane, a native of France, will return to the Octagon in the main event of UFC 270 this Saturday in Anaheim, California, where he will challenge Francis Ngannou, of Cameroon, for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
Speaking to ESPN after Saturday’s UFC Vegas 46 card, White was complimentary of both heavyweights, but had particularly high praise for “Bon Gamin”.
“Stylistically you’ve got Francis Ngannou, who hits and destroys, and Ciryl Gane who’s probably the best technical heavyweight striker ever in UFC history,” the UFC boss said of the interim champion, who competed in Muay Thai before transitioning into MMA.
Gane and Ngannou are former training partners, but no longer see eye to eye. The pair’s history has added a layer of drama to what was already a very intriguing championship bout.
As far as White is concerned, WWE CEO Vince McMahon could not pen a better storyline.
“It doesn’t get any better than this,” he said of the UFC 270 main event. “You’ve got two guys that are former training partners. They came out of the same camp. Now they don’t like each other.
