UFC: Dana White says Conor McGregor has ‘chronic arthritis’, tried to tape ankle for Dustin Poirier bout
- White lends some credence to McGregor’s claims he was compromised going into UFC 264
- UFC president reveals Irishman requested – and received – permission to tape his ankle from the Nevada Athletic Commission
Many thought Conor McGregor was making excuses when he claimed last week his left leg and ankle were injured coming into UFC 264, but Dana White has admitted the Irishman was compromised.
UFC president White revealed McGregor had requested permission from the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) to tape up his ankle for his lightweight trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier on July 10 in Las Vegas.
“The Notorious” broke his leg in the final seconds of the first round at the T-Mobile Arena, and underwent surgery the next day on his fibula and tibia, before posting on social media that he had “stress fractures” during his training camp.
“He’s had ankle issues for the last couple of years, and he had asked if he could tape his ankles coming into this fight and he got clearance to do it from the Nevada state athletic commission,” White told Fox News.
“And then he opted not to tape them. I don’t know why. But yeah, he has chronic arthritis in his ankles.”
