The Takedown | UFC 263: Nate Diaz steals the spotlight but overlooked Leon Edwards is ‘here to kill’
- ‘Rocky’ finds himself overshadowed by two big title fight rematches and a big name personality going into Saturday’s bout
- Edwards, who already believes a title shot should be his, has a big chip on his shoulder and the confidence to deliver
Leon Edwards is fighting this weekend at UFC 263 – but you wouldn’t know it judging by the pre-event press conference.
The No 3-ranked welterweight contender saw himself responding to merely two questions in the madness that became the Israel Adesanya-Marvin Vettori show on Thursday.
Squaring off with the fan favourite in Nate Diaz, it just gives Edwards all the more spotlight to steal as he heads into the event bafflingly overlooked.
“Skill-set wise, I am leaps above him and I will show that come Saturday night,” Edwards said. “It’s kill or be killed and I’m here to kill. I can’t wait.”
Looking at the track records of each man, there’s no reason to believe that Edwards (18-3) shouldn’t – or at the very least, can’t – have his way with Stockton’s finest.
Diaz is 20-12 in his career dating back to 2004. Majorly a lightweight during his time competing, his days at welterweight – especially against the best in the division – have treated him less than kindly.
