Bellator 259: Valerie Loureda wants world to recognise she’s not just a pretty face
- Loureda returns to MMA cage against Hannah Guy determined to remind everyone what she’s capable of when she’s not posting on Instagram
- ‘You’re going to see … [The haters are] going to have no other option than to become a fan,’ says No 8-ranked Bellator flyweight
Valerie Loureda wants the world to recognise she’s not just a pretty face, but a world-class fighter, too.
The 22-year-old Cuban-American star, who has over a million social media followers, is set to return to the cage against Hannah Guy at Bellator 259 on Friday night (US time), and hopes to once again remind the world of what she’s capable of when not posting on Instagram.
“You’re going to see,” she told SCMP MMA. “[The haters are] going to have no other option than to become a fan.
“I’m ranked No 8 [in the Bellator flyweight division], so it shows me I’m getting more credibility as a mixed martial artist. Honestly, all I remember is patience. They’re going to see as the time passes.”
Loureda has been criticised by fans and fellow fighters for the way she behaves on social media, but believes she’s unfairly judged based on her glamorous looks, and urges her sceptics to peer beyond the surface.
