UFC 262: Tony Ferguson somehow survives heel hook but Beneil Dariush dominates for unanimous decision
- ‘El Cucuy’ hangs on to ride out painful submission attempt in second round with left knee compromised in third
- ‘He looked at me like nothing happened. I heard a big pop. I asked him afterwards, he said nah. Man, he’s a zombie,’ says Dariush
Beneil Dariush called for a lightweight title eliminator after dominating former interim champ Tony Ferguson for a unanimous decision in Saturday night’s UFC 262 co-main event.
Ferguson (26-6) received a huge ovation when he walked out at the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas, but “El Cucuy” again looked like a shadow of his former self, suffering a third-straight defeat.
No 9-ranked Dariush (21-4-1) extended his win streak to seven, earning 30-27 scorecards across the board, but was loudly booed throughout the fight and even during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.
“I’m very happy,” he began before telling the crowd: “Hey, calm down.”
Ferguson somehow survived a deep heel hook attempt in the second round, though his surgically-repaired left knee was completely compromised in the third.
