UFC 261: Kamaru Usman tells Jorge Masvidal ‘you’re the first guy I’m about to lap’
- ‘You’re sitting there today because I chose you,’ says Usman, who has already knocked off contenders Covington, Edwards and Burns
- ‘To me it’s not personal, it’s all about business. He’s that next guy that I’ve picked,’ adds UFC welterweight champ
Having already knocked off contenders Colby Covington, Leon Edwards and Gilbert Burns, UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman thinks Jorge Masvidal is about to start a trend.
For “The Nigerian Nightmare”, Saturday night’s UFC 261 main event will mark his first title rematch of possibly many as he continues to dominate the 170-pound division.
“You’ve got 14 losses in your career, seven of them in the UFC. You’re 3-3 in your last six. You’re sitting there today because I chose you,” Usman told Masvidal at Thursday’s press conference in Jacksonville, Florida.
“I’m coming around the track and you’re the first guy I’m about to lap,” he added.
Even though Usman (18-1) called for Masvidal (35-14), saying they had unfinished business despite getting two 50-45 scorecards in a unanimous decision last July when “Gamebred” took the fight on a week’s notice, he doesn’t see the rematch as a personal affair.
