You can never say never in mixed martial arts, but it looks like Khabib Nurmagomedov has finally closed the door on fighting Georges St-Pierre.
The retired UFC lightweight champion – whom promotional president Dana White is determined to bring back to the Octagon for one more fight – has been keen on facing the Canadian legend for years.
Former welterweight and middleweight champ St-Pierre (26-2) retired for the second time in 2018, but has been holding out hope for a dream clash with the undefeated “Eagle” (29-0).
“When you say Georges St-Pierre, that name really motivates me,” Nurmagmedov said in an interview with Russian MMA fighter Magomed Ismailov (17-2-1).


“GSP really makes me excited and so on, but it’s all over, brother. He’s 40 years old [actually 39]. Let’s just leave it.
“For sure we like him as a human being. He is the legend. He is the decent representation of mixed martial arts. Let it be like this, there’s GSP and Khabib.”

Nurmagomedov’s late father and coach Abdulmanap, who died in July due to complications from contracting Covid-19 – had also wished to see his son face UFC Hall of Famer St-Pierre to go 30-0.
But the 32-year-old Dagestan native announced his shock retirement after a second-round submission of Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 on Fight Island in October.
White insisted this month he is “not buying” Nurmagomedov’s retirement talk, saying “I can see it in his face”. The two met in Abu Dhabi in January, with the UFC president intending to have more talks over dinner with the Russian in Las Vegas soon.
