The UFC star known as “Gamebred”, who last fought at UFC 251 last July, in which he lost a short-notice five-round decision to welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, inspired a specific move for Cole Young, said Lewis Tan, who portrays the fictional character in Mortal Kombat.

The Mortal Kombat reboot film is slated for April after being delayed due to the pandemic. One of the characters is Young, a former mixed martial artist who is the protagonist in the film.

Mortal Kombat follows Young as he is hunted by two assassins and gathers a team of fighters to defend Earth in a battle against evil forces. The original inspiration for the film is a video game series that debuted in 1992 and featured incredibly gory fight scenes with finishing moves known as “fatalities”.

An original film was released in 1995, and although panned by critics, it was hugely successful at the box office and has since gained cult status.
