UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson (25-5) is back on the grind after losing his second fight on the trot in December – and it seems he is channelling Hong Kong’s own legendary filmmaker Stephen Chow Sing-chi to do it.

“El Cucuy”, who lost to Charles Oliveira (30-8, one no contest) via unanimous decision at UFC 256, was tweeting updates on physical and mental training before quoting from a fight scene in Chow’s martial arts comedy Kung Fu Hustle (2004).

“Who would have ever thought the Beast’s thrashing would clear the boy’s chi flow – Kung Fu Hustle (funny movie by Stephen Chow),” the 36-year-old American wrote, accompanied by some fan art.

“[Champ s*** only] – Always finding myself in that space where people tap … I live in that moment and thrive. – Champ.”

The “Beast” that Ferguson referred to is the near-indestructible villain character of veteran Hong Kong actor Bruce Leung Siu-lung. He was involved in a notorious boss-level-type fight scene as protagonists attempted to unite against him.
