The 32-year-old former UFC interim welterweight champion took issue with some of his followers’ responses to news of Trump contracting the coronavirus this week. “Chaos” Covington, who beat former champion Tyron Woodley via fifth-round TKO in September, was invited to attend and sit near the president’s family at the presidential debate on Tuesday, after attending Trump’s rally in Nevada last month.
“For the people who constantly slander my name, but are all of a sudden concerned with my health and well being: I’m Covid free,” the American said on Instagram.
“I’ve been tested [seven] times in the past [three] weeks, including before and after meeting with the [President]. I was also tested during fight week, as well as before and after the debate. ALL NEGATIVE.”
Covington, who had not fought since losing a welterweight title fight to incumbent champion Kamaru Usman via fifth-round TKO at UFC 245 in 2019, has spent the year demanding a rematch with the “human trash-bag” while upping his support during Trump’s re-election campaign. Trump also called to congratulate Covington during ESPN’s live broadcast after the Woodley win.
