Bellator 243: Michael Chandler says he’d make Conor McGregor ‘see Jesus’ as he enters free agency with Benson Henderson KO
- Chandler says ‘my phone is on’ after first-round knockout of former UFC lightweight champ
- ‘Every lightweight in the top 10 is on the clock. I’m a guy who’s been on the outside of this sport looking in, scheming, plotting his next big move’
After entering free agency with a spectacular first-round knockout of Benson Henderson at Bellator 243, “Iron” Michael Chandler promised he could do the same to Conor McGregor if he finally heads to the UFC.
The 34-year-old Chandler (21-5) rocked Henderson (28-9) with a switch-step left before grazing the top of his head with a right as the former UFC lightweight champ fell face first to the canvas and the referee raced in with just 2:08 on the clock.
“From the business side of things, we’re gonna make the best decision possible,” said three-time Bellator lightweight champ Chandler, who is now tied for most wins in the organisation’s history.
“It’s certain I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am without Bellator and how well they’ve taken care of me. But my phone’s on, we have an exclusive negotiating period like every contract.
“The future’s bright, my phone is open,” he added. “It’s gonna be interesting couple of weeks. Every single lightweight is on notice now. Every lightweight in the top 10 is on the clock. I’m a guy who’s been on the outside of this sport looking in, scheming, plotting his next big move. We’ll see what happens.”
Chandler has talked big in the past about being able to knock out former two division UFC champ McGregor, and he reiterated his claim at the post-event press conference at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
