In early 2020 UFC lightweight fighter Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal sat down with American author and entrepreneur Grant Cardone for an interview. Masvidal, never one to shy away from a camera or microphone, threw out lots of hypotheticals, predictions and conclusions in his typical braggadocious style.

One of his offerings was the Cuban-American has already thought about his life after the UFC, which now includes a decision loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 251 over the weekend on Fight Island, his 49th professional bout, a staggering number to comprehend.
“I got options,” said the 35-year-old who started out street fighting in Florida. “As far as my body goes I would still be fresh to do other things, whether it be other athletic endeavours. I could do a lot of good things in the sports world, so I’m going to compete maybe in some CrossFit world championships later.”

Masvidal went on to guarantee he would win some competitions. To think that Masvidal would be anywhere near the level of a Mat Fraser, Rich Froning, Patrick Vellner or even three-time women’s defending champion Tia-Clair Toomey is absurd, but it raises a very interesting point and makes a compelling argument: it’s clear when Masvidal talks, people are still more than willing to listen.

His demand of a rematch against Usman will most likely fall on deaf ears. But at this point, no one is even talking about the match itself because another number has dwarfed everything: 1.3 million. That’s the amount of pay-per-view buys ESPN is reporting, and it’s pretty clear who brought the majority of those.
