Bruce Lee would be a match for Conor McGregor in the UFC, says Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson
- ‘If Bruce Lee were in his prime today, he’d be where Conor McGregor is now, he would be that guy,’ says Thompson
- ‘He could talk, he was fun to watch, he’d be at the top of the game today,’ adds ‘Wonderboy’, as ESPN 30 for 30’s ‘Be Water’ returns spotlight to Lee
UFC welterweight star Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson believes Bruce Lee would not only match today’s MMA stars if he were still alive, but that the martial arts master would be challenging the likes of Conor McGregor at the very top of the sport.
“If Bruce Lee was in his prime today, we would see him in the UFC. He’d be where Conor McGregor is now. He would be that guy,” said Thompson, in likening the Hong Kong star to the Irish former featherweight and lightweight champ.
“Bruce Lee could talk, he was fun to watch, he would be at the top of the game today.”
Thompson has joined a chorus of acclaim for Lee from within the global MMA community as sports network ESPN prepares for the screening of Be Water, the latest documentary to focus on the life of the martial arts master.
ESPN screened Be Water on Sunday in the US as part of its ongoing 30 for 30 series, one that charts some of sport history’s great stories and individuals.
