Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone said he felt embarrassed after his first-round loss to Conor McGregor earlier this year.

The 37-year-old Cerrone (36-14, one no contest), who is on a three-fight losing streak after losing to McGregor, Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson, will face Anthony Pettis (22-10) at UFC 249 in Florida on Sunday.
“It’s not that I didn’t know I didn’t wanna be there, it’s just like I didn’t feel prepared,” Cerrone said at the UFC 249 virtual media day on Thursday, as reporters followed up on his comments last week he “didn’t wanna be in there” during his 40-second TKO loss to McGregor.
“I didn’t feel like I did … the ‘if Is’, the ‘did yous’ and ‘should haves’ [were] weighing heavy on me. I should have put a lot more effort in. I’m not sitting here making excuses, I’m just saying the wrong guy definitely showed up and I paid heavily for it. What an embarrassment I made in 40 seconds,” he added.
Despite UFC president Dana White refuting Cerrone’s interest in fighting in all three of the promotion’s upcoming cards – which span roughly one week – he insisted he would “go from a bum to a superstar” once he tops his three-fight losing streak with three consecutive wins.
