Jorge Masvidal was many people’s pick for 2019 fighter of the year, after three spectacular stoppages, and the landscape for 2020 looks just as exciting for him with plenty of options.

There’s a title fight with Kamaru Usman on the table, and a big-money bout with Conor McGregor a strong possibility, with the Irishman returning next weekend to the UFC Octagon at 170 pounds.

“If it’s my doing, up to me, everybody’s getting it, especially that owl dude. I’m going owl hunting,” Masvidal told Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, where he won the male fighter of the year award.

By “owl” the 35-year-old was referring to UFC welterweight champion Usman. “The Nigerian Nightmare” clearly irked “Gamebred” last month by pretending not to know who he was after beating Colby Covington at UFC 245. The “owl” nickname was possibly born on the back of Usman twice replying “who?” (which might sound like a noise an owl makes) when asked if he wanted to fight Masvidal.

“I want some owl soup,” Masvidal added. “This dude was a little disrespectful with that ‘who?’ s***. You know who, man, and if you don’t, when we get in that ring you’ll find out who I am brother. I would love to introduce myself to you in a prizefighting ring.

“It took me 16 years to get here, I had to go and get famous before I got a world title. That’s how good I am. The UFC was scared of me. I’m about to prove some s*** in 2020, and hopefully it’s gonna be on that owl’s head. You know who I’m talking about.”
