UFC: Dustin Poirier calls out Nate Diaz in three weight classes, including 185-pound middleweight
- Poirier says he would fight Diaz at ‘155, 170 or 185’ pounds and expects a fight return in April 2020
- The pair were set to fight in 2018 but it was scrapped after Poirier became ‘tired of playing games’ with Diaz
Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier reignited his conflict with Nate Diaz by calling the fan favourite out in three weight divisions.
“The Diamond” (professional record 25-6, 1 no contest) has not fought since his third-round loss to incumbent champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in September but has already got Diaz (20-12) in his cross hairs.
“I’ll fight him at 155, 170 or 185 [pounds],” Poirier tweeted in response to a fan question about interesting matchups for his next fight. The 30-year-old clarified that he can “get up to 185” pounds but usually walks around at 168.
The 34-year-old Diaz made a comeback in August after a three-year hiatus following his rematch loss to Conor McGregor. The Stockton, California, fighter defeated Anthony Pettis upon his return before losing to Jorge Masvidal for the promotion’s inaugural “BMF” belt.
Poirier vs Diaz was actually a confirmed fight set for UFC 230 in November 2018. Poirier withdrew citing an “undisclosed injury”, but later clarified why he opted to scrap the bout.
In another recent Twitter fan Q&A, Poirier revealed that Diaz “couldn’t come to terms with the UFC” at the time and he was “tired of playing games with the guy”.
